Brit Expats In Spain Warned Over UK TV And IPTV Scams

British expats living in Spain are now being warned over IPTV and British TV scams.

For would-be Brit expats heading off to Spain for retirement in the sun, having access to British television services is essential. Unfortunately, not every source of the android boxes giving access to ITV, BBC, Sky, Premier League, thousands of movies and Channel 4 is genuine, with British expats now being warned about the dozens of scams associated with buying one online.

One Brit expat professional who’s been active in the sector for 15 years confirmed expats were being ripped off, saying those who buy a box online and attempt to use it are more likely to end up in the local pub than watching an entire footie game in the comfort of their home. The most frequent complaints involve one-off priced boxes costing between 80 and 140 euros which fail almost immediately, leaving expats frustrated and furious. So-called providers offering lump-sum purchases with no annual subscription are the worst offenders as their boxes are invariably low-quality.

In addition, servers can shut down and can’t be fixed, leaving the purchaser having to start again from the beginning. Another indication of poor service or even a downright scam is the mention of Sky in ads, as the company is known to legally target providers operating just outside the international law. One Malaga-based outfit was busted a year ago following complaints by Premier League officials.
