A British expat living in the Costa del Sol got her revenge on her attacker when she traced and caught him using selfies he’d later taken using her stolen smartphone.
The horrendous attack and rape of the 23-year old Brit took place in Torremolinos’s La Nogalera district just over a week ago at around 5 a.m. According to local media, her attacker must have followed her before punching her in the face and body and threatening her before he raped her. She lost consciousness during the attack and woke up to find she was naked from the waist down, but managed to reach a local health centre and get herself treated before calling the police.
When the news broke, witnesses who’d seen the attack and heard her begging her rapist to stop came forward, as did another who’d seen a screaming woman being hit around the face and body. By the time the witnesses had reacted, the rapist had fled the area, taking with him his victim’s mobile phone.
Some 48 hours after the attack and rape had taken place, the police were able to arrest the suspect as the victim had found selfies she recognised as her attacker with his friends on her Google Drive account. The selfies are believed to have been taken the day following the rape, and the suspect is known to local police as a Spanish squatter who was living in Torremolinos. He was arrested at the squat with his victim’s mobile phone in his pocket. He’s been accused of robbery, wounding and sexual assault and is being held in custody pending trial.
