Around 100 members of Brexit protest group Bremain in Spain are planning to fly back to the UK to join what promises to be a huge protest against Brexit.
The march will take place Saturday, just a few days before the UK’s time for negotiating a soft withdrawal runs out. Estimated to draw huge numbers, the ‘Put it to the People’ protest is set to be the largest ever held in the entire history of British politics. Organised by the People’s Vote campaign, the march is intended to demand any Brexit exit be first legitimised by the British people before it can be voted into law.
Bremain in Spain are telling it like it is, with a spokesperson stating the way Brexit was sold to the general public was a ‘lie, a fantasy and a pipe dream’. A previous protest by the People’s Vote campaign took place last October, drawing around 700,000 marchers calling for a second referendum and breaking the record for the largest demonstration since the war in Iraq. Saturday’s event is expected to break that record again, especially since yesterday’s bombshell statement by the Speaker of the House of Commons which made it clear a third vote on May’s deal as it stands would not be held.
For those who’ve now realised the Brexit campaign was composed of unverifiable lies and political manoeuvring as regards the premiership of the UK, together with the hundreds of thousands of young people now entitled to vote for their own futures for the first time, it’s a chance to make the strength of anti-Brexit feelings known in a manner which even British lawmakers will understand. According to the organisers, it’s a now or never moment for businesses, jobs, university education, the cost of living in the UK and much, much more. The Peoples’ Vote website shows the progress of its £750,000 appeal now standing at £616,415 – 82 per cent of the hoped-for total – and an indication of how seriously Britons are taking this moment in time.
