British expats in Spain and across Europe are delighted to hear that much-loved Captain Tom Moore will get his celebratory birthday flypast after all.

Out of all the news concerning every aspect of the pandemic and its effects, Captain Tom’s amazing story has warmed the hearts of British expats and citizens all over the globe, not to mention those in the NHS who’ll benefit from the astonishing £29 million plus he’s raised. The grand old man’s 100th birthday is tomorrow, his number one hit single featuring Michael Ball is being played wherever Brits are based and he’s received literally hundreds of thousands of birthday cards from all across the world.

Today’s good news concerning the heroic former WWII soldier’s birthday celebrations will gladden expats who’ve take to social media to condemn the jobsworths at the UK’s Transport Department who refused to allow a birthday flypast by a restored Spitfire as it was a ‘non-essential trip’ which contravened the isolation guidelines. Tomorrow, a flypast will take place after all, thanks to the RAF, with the Transport Secretary gritting his teeth and telling reporters the new arrangement will honour Captain Tom in an ‘even more significant manner’.

Even so, officialdom attempted to have the last word, with the Ministry of Defence urging local people in the area not to watch the flypast as they may be tempted to contravene the rules on social distancing. One thing’s for certain, Captain Tom and his amazing feat will live on in British memories as one of the few positive actions during this unimaginable time in world history, even after those who tried to put a damper on one amazing man's celebration of the British spirit are long gone.
