Elderly Expat In Mojacar Hit Four Times By Same Muggers

Expats in Mojacar are being warned about a gang of muggers preying on older foreign men.

One unfortunate British expat business owner has been targeted by the same gang of muggers four times. Owner of Sundance Spas Charles Alman told reporters his first encounter with the muggers took place outside his business, when a young woman approached him and asked whether he knew a person. She than wrapped herself around him and made sexual suggestions. Taken aback, he pushed her away and watched as she got in a car and sped off. Only then did he realise she’d stolen his valuable gold chain.

Subsequently, the same scam took place on a local street, with the same victim but using a different female. Now wise to the muggers’ technique, he pushed the girl away, telling her would call the police and causing her to run away, accompanied by another girl. Later the same day, another woman asked him to open his car window, presumably in an attempt to snatch his watch, and later in the same week the first scam was tried on him again outside his business premises.

At this point, Charles was very angry and attempted to take the girl’s photo as well as calling the police. She ran towards a car containing two men and another girl, with one of the men getting out of the car. At that moment, one of Charles’ male employees came out onto the street, and the muggers fled.

Gibraltarian expat Charles has lived in Mojacar for more than three decades, and is now convinced criminals using young women as bait are picking on older expatriates. Whilst reporting the latest incident at the police station, he noticed another elderly man who was reporting his gold Rolex had just been stolen using the same modus operandum. The victim had been sitting in his car with the door open when a girl got in, making out she knew him using fluent English. She snatched his watch, biting his hand when he struggled to prevent the theft and swiftly leaving in another car. Local police don’t seem to be very concerned about the muggings, saying these incidents can happen anywhere on any day.
