Expats in the Czech Republic are ecstatic about free beer to celebrate pub re-openings.
Yesterday was the day expats in the Czech Republic had been waiting for during the state’s coronavirus lockdown. In order to limit the effect of the pandemic on the state’s popular breweries as well as on their expat customers, pubs have now been reopened and are celebrating by offing free pints of draught beer to their thirsty customers.
In the republic, draught beer is a cultural institution, with breweries known all across the country as well as worldwide for their products. Although inveterate drinkers have been able to satisfy their longing for the liquid gold during the lockdown by going to beer gardens or beer drive-throughs, for the average Czech as well as the city’s huge expat community, nothing beats sitting enjoying a pint in Prague’s famous pubs.
Now the ban has been lifted, brewers of the famous Pilsner Urquell draft beer are offering free pints to frustrated drinkers who’d begun to believe the happy day would never come. According to a spokesperson from the brewery, the one million pints of free beer is a thank-you for drinkers’ loyalty throughout the Czech Republic and its neighbouring Slovak republic.
All faithful followers of the famous brew are invited to the party in their favourite pubs, with the brewery also using the event to send a call to government for a return to normal life as quickly as possible. In addition, it’s a great way to thank drinkers for their sensible behaviour during the lockdown as well as an encouragement to go back to enjoying sitting with friends in a favourite restaurant or pub.
