The Kuwaiti government believes there’s a strong possibility of war involving the Arab States.

Kuwaiti lawmakers are alarmed by the growing instability in the region, and are urging all residents including expats to take the necessary precautions. According to speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq al Ghanim, Kuwaiti ministries are developing precautionary measures, with especial focus on a plan to ensure adequate food and medical supplies should the situation escalate and the military become involved. Internal stability, he added, must be maintained.

According to the minister, his comments were based on current information as regards the likelihood of a state of emergency or war, with the level of possibility now set at high due to recent developments. He added Kuwait is a small country, more likely to be affected by regional disorder as its influence is also minimal compared with larger states in the Gulf region. Hopes are now resting on the diplomatic capabilities of the emirate’s leader, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabar al-Sabah.

Meanwhile in Abu Dhabi, long-term visa prices for expat professionals have finally been revealed. Ten year visas at a cost of Dhs 1,150 will cover specialists in sectors such as medicine, tech, research and science, with innovators also entitled to 10-year stays. Five year visas will be made available to retirees, investors, students studying at local universities and executives at a cost of Dhs650. In addition, visas specifically designed for expat retirees are expected to be offered in the near future.
