Brexit’s potential is still confusing UK expats in EU member states, but it’s good news for dogs.

A recently published article is attempting to clear the fog around British expats' post-Brexit rights. Posted by Europe Street, it attempts to clarify the real deal for British pensioners via an analysis of statements made by both the British government and the EU authorities. Worryingly, it suggests British pensioners living in EU member states will not be entitled to much in the way of benefits one the deal is done.

At the present time, UK expats in EU member states such as Spain can access free healthcare via the S1 scheme and can receive the state pension, whilst some younger expats can even claim unemployment benefit. For those planning to retire in Spain during 2021, it’s possible they will only be entitled to receive Britain's measly state pension. The only good news from the report is that those already in residence in the EU aren’t likely to see any changes as they’re protected by the withdrawal agreement.

Meanwhile in the Costa del Sol town of Fuengirola, it’s good news for expats whose lives aren’t complete without a doggy best friend or two in the home. The city fathers have generously agreed to expand its dog-friendly beach by 672 square metres, thus pleasing the dog-loving expats in this pet-friendly town as well as their fur-babies. The spacious area will help pet parents keep safe via social distancing, whilst dogs of all shapes, sizes and sexes will be able to do what dogs do to their hearts’ content.
