Amsterdam primary schools have launched a new website to inform expats wishing to put their kids into the Dutch school system.

One of the most pressing problems for expat families is schooling for youngsters, as accessible information in newcomers’ languages is often hard to find. Expats arriving in Amsterdam along with their families can now access the new English language website representing 22 local primary schools happy to help the newly-arrived choose the best school for their children.

The site contains information allowing parents to check the different schools on offer, examine their pupils’ examination results and discover the range of public education schools available for children over the age of 12. Expat parents can also check out available properties close to their selected schools, a idea which resulted from a survey which found closeness to home was the most important faction for expat parents’ choice of schools.

At the same time, the highly-regarded EU-backed European School in Bergen has announced its move to a new location in either Aanstad, Alkmaar or Castricum, all of which have expressed interest in hosting the well-known education facility. The reason behind the projected move is a 20 per cent increase in numbers of pupils since the arrival in Amsterdam of the European Medicines Agency.
