Expats Arriving In Cambodia Are Due For An Unpleasant Surprise

If you’re thinking of heading to Cambodia for a short break or for business reasons, this might be the time to delay your trip!

According to a statement by the Cambodian government, all travellers entering the Southeast Asian country must pay a $3,000 deposit either by card or in cash. The money will be used for Covid19 service charges, and new arrivals will also require travel insurance cover of no less than $50,000. In addition, arriving passengers will be charged $5 for their transportation to a local testing centre plus a $100 fee for the test itself.

The compulsory overnight stay in a waiting centre or designated hotel whilst results are being calibrated will be charged at $30, plus $30 for three meals. In addition, laundry charges of $15, $5 a day for medical surveillance and $3 for security are on the bill. Refunds will only be given if the passenger plus the entire number of travellers on the flight are cleared from the infection, and all passengers must go into self-quarantine for 14 days after their arrival.

During the quarantine period, passengers must make daily reports to medical professionals and take a further test on the 13th day. If the test is negative, $30 will be charged for a health certificate allowing the holder to leave Cambodia. Apparently, the above charges will apply to every arriving passenger with the exception of those on official business for the Cambodian government and those with diplomatic passports.

For the unlucky few, those with symptoms requiring hospitalisation will be tested four times at a state medical facility at a total cost of $400 and, should the person die whilst under treatment, cremation will be charged at $1500. All of the above costs will be taken from arriving passengers’ original $3,000 deposit.
