Expats With Thai Wives Now Allowed To Re-enter Thailand

Thailand is finally lowering the bar and letting expats with Thai wives and families come home.

A recent report from the Thai government has finally designated the classification of groups of foreigners to be allowed into the country. To the relief of thousands expats married to Thais and with young families, they’re finally to be reunited with their loved ones after months of separation simply because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Others in the same group include wellness and medical tourists, permanent residents, investors and business owners, exporters who need to visit their factories or who have particular business interests and skilled labourers.

All in this group may be forced to undergo 14 days in state quarantine at their own expense, with some 2,000 of those married to Thais already registered to enter. The second group comprises expat business persons and entrepreneurs on short stays, to conduct business or sign contracts, although these may be intensely screened for infection. In the same group are guests of the government attending seminars or special ceremonies as well as tourists using the travel bubble scheme. Target countries for the latter group include South Korea, Japan and, of course China.

It has to be said that Thailand’s swift, severe action when the virus first hit has saved the country from a devastating result as regards numbers of infections and deaths. The only recently discovered cases of the coronavirus have been in passengers arriving in the country from states with major problems as regards the spread of the disease. In total and to date, Thailand has now had 29 transmission-free days as well as a total of 3,156 infections and just 58 deaths since the beginning of January.
