Expats in the UAE are now wondering about the effect on their lives of the six-month long
DubaiEXPO 2020.
Anticipating this spectacular world event is one thing, but getting around and doing your job as an expat may well be another, should the expected millions of visitors arrive. Naturally, everyone is excited, but the real world of commerce and business needs to continue as usual despite the mega-celebration. Anticipated issues include transportation, access to facilities, massive crowds and possible price increases in the short term, but the spectacular event is certain to be the experience of a lifetime.
For those still searching for the right job at the right time, EXPO 2020 may be a blessing, as the creation of some 50,000 jobs is expected to be one welcome result of the extravaganza. For established businesses it’s a rare opportunity, and should have a positive effect on the UAE’s economy for some years, as it’s a catalyst for progress and innovation. It’s even possible that expats may find it far easier to start their own businesses.
The UAE’s leaders see the event as a critical investment involving all its residents as well as the high number of expats needing visas. Another expat bonus is expected to be looser regulations for foreigners wishing to stay on the emirate after retirement kicks in. Less demanding visa rules stimulate the region’s attraction for expat professionals looking to settle, with the new five year retirement visa now getting a positive reaction from the existing expatriate community.
