Most British Expats In Gulf States Reject Returning To The UK

Only one in every three British expatriates living and working in the UAE have the intention of eventually returning to the UK.

As the result of a survey based on British expat intentions regarding a return to the UK shows, the message is now loud and clear – no way! Almost 75 per cent of Gulf-based respondents are either somewhat or very concerned over the effects of Brexit on the UK economy and the lives of its resident citizens. The conclusion is obvious – a good selection of Britain’s brightest and best is more than happy to watch from afar as the home country continues to disintegrate due to misplaced political maneuvering.

Britons who’ve made their homes in the Gulf States due to the region’s high salaries and luxurious lifestyles are not giving up and going back to the UK for the foreseeable future, with the numbers of those deciding on staying put increasing year on year since the Brexit referendum result plunged the UK into confusion and uncertainty. Of the survey’s 100 per cent of respondents, just under 50 per cent said they had no plans to return, with another 25 per cent saying they were unsure about what to do.

Interestingly, the study showed the decision to emigrate and expats’ experiences after they arrived in the UAE has completely changed for the worse many British respondents’ perspectives on the UK, with only 28 per cent saying their change in views was slight. Some 23 per cent stated their opinions of the UK hadn’t changed at all, and only four per cent admitted to positive feelings about the British economy. Only one aspect of the UK gained approval from over half of those surveyed – the investment potential of British property – whilst many others admitted concerns over the likelihood of post-Brexit economic stagnation.
