Offensive Tourist Hen Party Causes Andalusian Religious Procession Chaos

Andalusian residents as well as expats will be happy to hear the government is now cracking down on tourists behaving badly.

The hastily-induced new law was the result of female tourists on a hen party invading a Sevilla religious procession whilst whacking each other over the head with huge, phallic inflatables. Understandably, those taking part in the religious procession were far less than thrilled by the women’s ridiculous, disrespectful behaviour, especially as they refused to stop when requested to do so. Eventually, local police moved the tourists on, but expats in the area were embarrassed by the decidedly offensive behaviour of the group.

As a result, police are now cracking down on both hen and stag parties, uttering threats of fines of up to three thousand euros for disrespectful behaviour in breach of the Spanish constitution. The Article 15 ruling bans any behaviour which offends peoples’ dignity or is considered discriminatory, racist, sexist or homophobic. The rule also determines the prohibition in public spaces of verbal insults or mocking, and puts the responsibility of preventing illegal behaviour squarely on the shoulders of event organisers. As a result of the incident, Spanish police can now fine perpetrators between seven hundred and three thousand euros for the crime of offending others.

At the same time, fears for the safety of yet another British expat missing since last week are growing, as his family are unable to reach him via his mobile phone. Palma resident James Bramhall was last seen over a week ago, with his family in the UK now concerned about his whereabouts. Attempts to call his cellphone have come to nothing as it now seems to be in the hands of a Spanish woman unable to speak English.
