Online Spanish Festival Reminds Expats That Life Is Beautiful

Last weekend, expats living all across Spain and the world enjoyed the virtual version of the International Feria de los Pueblos.

The famous annual event in Fuengirola is a favourite with expats as well as Spaniards, but can’t take place at its usual location due to the requirements for social distancing imposed as part of Spain’s battle against the pandemic. However, the online version was a must-see for its coverage of over 30 countries’ cultures and fascinating traditions. Dance, art, music and food were the main features as usual, transferred to the internet for all to enjoy.

Participants taught favourite recipes, displayed their colourful customs, and explained and demonstrated their traditions. The reality of over 100 nationalities living in harmony and perfect peace all over the world will have been a revelation for expats trapped in lockdown due to the pandemic. The online edition of the ever-popular annual cultural celebration included participants such as Japan, the UK, Greece, Mexico, Cuba, Hawaii, Finland, Bolivia and Argentina as well as lands less well known as expat and tourism hubs. In these difficult times, the online production acted as a gift to all those unable to get out and enjoy their lives at this dangerous time in world history.

Next year, it’s hoped this amazing show will return to its usual venue in Fuengirola, allowing expats and locals alike to experience in real time the traditions and cultures of their counterparts across the entire world. One social media comment said it all, reminding those suffering from the effects of the pandemic anywhere in the world that life is beautiful and the worst will be over soon.
