Secret Amsterdam: 5 Hidden Gems You Should Visit

The capital city of the Netherlands is full of art and culture, expressed through the various popular tourist attractions you can visit, such as the Anne Frank House and Van Gogh Museum. What about the secret attractions, the ones that are unknown to many and visited by few tourists? Here are five secret locations Crown Relocations recommends you visit in Amsterdam!

Westergasfabriek (Gashouder)

Located in the borough of Amsterdam-West, in the centre of Westerpark, Westergasfabriek is an event venue with an interesting architectural design, as it was previously a gasworks facility. This industrial aesthetic can be seen throughout the surrounding area, perfect for spending a day out and taking pictures. There are many things to do here, such as try new restaurants, see live music performances and visit an arthouse cinema that hosts a variety of film festivals. Not to mention it is also the home of one of the biggest arcades in the city!

REM Eiland

REM Eiland is a unique restaurant located near Zeeheldenbuurt and it is only accessible by jetty. Built into a former television broadcasting station sitting on the water, the restaurant has spectacular views of the surrounding area and offers a wonderful dining experience for all who visit. REM Eiland also offers private dining for up to 24 people in the former studio room and a rooftop bar with a fantastic view of the city that will be on your mind for days to come after visiting.

The Pancake Boat (De Pannenkoekenboot)

Right across the river from REM Eiland, you can find The Pancake Boat, a boating tour for those looking for the ultimate sweet tooth experience in Amsterdam. Here you can enjoy Dutch-style pancakes with a wide variety of toppings, from sweet to savoury. The boating tour will take approximately 75 minutes and it will take you through the city’s famous docks, allowing you to enjoy breath-taking views, while also enjoying your sweet treat.

EYE Film Museum

The next location on our list is the EYE Film Museum, which can be found in the Amsterdam-Noord borough, standing out from the rest of the buildings due to its unique architecture. There are several things to do within the museum, such as visiting the gallery space that regularly hosts exhibitions related to film making. Not to mention the four modern cinemas located within the structure and a restaurant overlooking the river and the city, perfect for admiring the city lights in the evening.

The Nieuwe Spiegelstraat

This area is just south of the historic city centre and is sure to have something for everyone. It hosts a great mix of independent shops and boutiques, so it is likely that you’ll find something for you; from antiques at Aronson Antiquairs, to vintage clothing at Episode Nothing New. Between the shops and the tasty street food in the area, you will be spending hours walking the Nieuwe Spiegelstraat.
