An Abu Dhabi government survey has revealed some 90 per cent of residents feel safe in the emirate.
The results of the Better Life Index study were released earlier this week, and claim the emirate is one of the world’s safest and most secure world countries. In addition, some 68 per cent of residents reported they’re satisfied with their jobs. The four-month long study involved 51,000 respondents, 60 per cent of whom were expatriates living and working in the region.
The survey was initiated as a means to provide a strategic plan for a new government department’s initiative towards community development, with the recently-formed Department of Community Development having its official launch immediately after the results were announced. Indicators featured in the study included jobs, health, housing, education, security, social services, income and a number of other criteria.
Departmental Chair Dr Mugheer al Khaili announced the new department would embody all aspects of developing, supporting and uplifting the lives of low income and needy families in the emirate. Organising both the expatriate and citizen communities, he added, would help the unemployed to find suitable jobs and become financially independent. Suitable housing will be found, life will improve for locals and expats alike, and the community will become cohesive.
In addition to the new department, the Abu Dhabi government has initiated a comprehensive platform for social innovation and volunteering. The Maan plan is aimed at activating all sectors of Abu Dhabi society in order to provide efficient community management and promote a good quality of life for all. Organisations, individuals and expatriates are invited to participate in order to create a decent life for every member of Abu Dhabi society.
